“We have anxiety because we want control, but here’s the thing—life’s not that way. We can’t control every situation. We can’t control all the things that happen to us. Or better yet, for us.” - Dr. Christian Gonzalez N.D.

You can listen or watch this talk by Dr. Christian Gonzalez. He is a naturopathic doctor (N.D), and his knowledge bombs are always fast and to the point. If you suffer from anxiety, this is worth 15 minutes of your time.

According to Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) Anxiety disorders are the most common mental “illness” (we prefer the word “health” but we’re quoting) in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older, or 18.1% of the population every year.

Dr. G shares symptoms that can span the list and lightly addresses what’s going on physiologically. Did you know there can be a hereditary component?

From factors that help you understand what is going on in your body and mind while experiencing anxiety, to awareness around your stress history— your history of childhood stress and trauma— Dr. G will walk you through how to navigate these moments, and shares some supplement recommendations. Lastly, he mentions a test you may want to discuss with your doctor if you suffer from chronic anxiety.

Note - this podcast includes an interview unrelated to anxiety, but that’s after the first 15 minutes which is all about anxiety.

Overall, it’s a quick moment of your time for real, practical tools you can implement today.

“You can understand how anxiety is really, really tied to our mental dialogue that we have with ourselves. That monkey-mind.” - Dr. G

(2:52) “Chronic stress really lays the foundation for persistent anxiety. This chronic, over, and over persistent stress that many of us Americans live in has a stress response with inciting factors. When you have these continuous triggers, you develop a maladaptive stress response. Meaning that your body is so well equipped to handle a lion coming in the room, so well-equipped to handle a cheetah chasing you, that when it’s persistent over time, over and over and there’s not necessarily any threat anymore, but we humans are so good at attaching stories into it, we have this maladaptive stress response. Our adrenal glands and our brain are not on the same page anywhere. So, we’re just releasing massive amounts of cortisol in our body, and it’s having a long-term effect on every system.”

(4:23) “You can understand how anxieties really, really tied to our mental dialogue that we have with ourselves. That monkey-mind.”

(13:23) “If you’re suffering with anxiety, know that there’s so many tools that you have, more than you maybe even realize, and you can do so much ground-breaking change if you just listen to your body and stop and surrender and get out in nature and empower yourself.”
